HighPoint and Graid Technology Breakthrough Gen5 Parity Storage Benchmark for AI, HPC, and Data-Intensive Workloads

GPU-based RAID delivers extreme NVMe Gen5 performance with parity protection—built for AI and HPC workloads—validated through a collaborative benchmark with Graid Technology, HighPoint Technologies, and SanDisk.

High-performance computing and AI workloads demand storage architectures that can deliver extreme throughput without sacrificing resilience. In a recent collaboration, HighPoint Technologies and Graid Technology demonstrated a breakthrough PCIe Gen5 parity storage benchmark, validating what’s possible when GPU-based RAID meets next-generation NVMe infrastructure.

The benchmark pairs HighPoint’s Rocket 7638D PCIe Gen5 switching architecture with SupremeRAID, enabling a single-slot Gen5×16 solution to connect up to 16 NVMe SSDs while sustaining full Gen5 bandwidth end-to-end. By offloading RAID and parity processing to the GPU, SupremeRAID eliminates traditional CPU bottlenecks, delivering ultra-low latency and consistent performance even under parity protection.

Tested with enterprise-class Gen5 NVMe SSDs, the configuration achieved nearly 57 GB/s of throughput, over 3.7 million IOPS, and more than 100 TB of usable capacity—all while maintaining data protection. These results underscore a critical advantage for AI, HPC, and data-intensive environments: organizations no longer have to choose between performance and resiliency.

This validated Gen5 architecture demonstrates how GPU-based RAID enables enterprises to unlock the full potential of NVMe SSDs, paving the way for scalable, high-density storage designed for the most demanding workloads.

Insights from Collaborating Partners:

“The Rocket 7638D is the realization of our vision for a modular, single-slot Gen5 fabric,” said May Hwang, MD, HighPoint Technologies, Inc. “By acting as the central switch hub, the 7638D eliminates the traditional two-slot requirement for high-speed I/O, providing a standard and flexible building block that guarantees uncompromised Gen5 x16 bandwidth from the GPU to the storage array. This benchmark proves our design delivers on uncompromised speed, density, and efficiency.”
“This collaboration proves just how far we can push Gen5 performance,” said Tom Paquette, SVP and GM, Graid Technology. “Together with HighPoint and Sandisk, we’ve demonstrated a single-slot GPU-accelerated RAID solution that delivers remarkable speed, capacity, and resilience for AI and HPC workloads.”
“This solution demonstrates the power of Sandisk enterprise-class NVMe SSDs in delivering breakthrough Gen5 performance. By collaborating with HighPoint and Graid, we’ve proven that ultra-fast, high-capacity, and reliable storage is not just possible – it’s ready for the most demanding workloads in AI, HPC, and data-intensive environments.” said Zaki Hassan, senior director, technical product marketing, Sandisk Corporation.

Every NVMe array pays a hidden storage tax — either 12–18% of line rate lost to a hardware RAID controller, or 18–28% of host CPU consumed by software RAID. With enterprise NVMe pricing up ~257% since Q2 2025, that tax now hits a much bigger check. SupremeRAID™ eliminates both halves by running RAID I/O on an NVIDIA GPU: full line-rate throughput, CPU cores returned to your applications, enterprise-grade protection on one card.
Graid Technology is proud to announce that it has been recognized in the 2026 Taiwan AI Awards, standing out among 137 outstanding companies.
This video demonstrates how to configure a RAID-protected storage volume using the SupremeRAID™ GUI. The walkthrough covers Physical Drive creation, Drive Group configuration with RAID level selection, and Virtual Drive provisioning — concluding with a block device visible to the OS and ready for use. Applicable to both Linux and Windows environments.
